About:

  • Ph.D. in Geology (Purdue University) 1998
  • MS in Geology (Moscow State University) 1986
  • BS in Paleontology 1985

Research Interests:

Paleontology, Stratigraphy, Cenozoic Mollusks

Research centers on critical intervals in the Cenozoic history, such as the Eocene-Oligocene transition from the Greenhouse to the Icehouse world, Middle Miocene Climatic Optimum, and the first opening of the Bering Strait. These changes produced a series of profound changes in the high-latitude biota, including pulses of diversification and extinction

Current research is primarily focused on the biodiversity, paleogeography, and isotopic record of paleoclimates in the poorly studied areas of the northern Pacific
(Alaska and Kamchatka).

The Paleontology and Stratigraphy at FAU Department of Geosciences is dedicated to studies of paleoclimate, paleobiology, and ancient depositional environments, based on the sediment record and fossil archives. Our main goal is to understand changes in Earth’s past climate, evolution of life, and biodiversity in order to be able to predict and model future changes.  We employ methods from broad fields of stratigraphy, sedimentology, paleontology, paleoecology and geochemistry. Our major focus is in the paleoenvironmental records of marine organisms with mineralized skeletons   Research ranges from documenting critical biotic events in the Cenozoic from high latitude to comparative studies of modern and Holocene coral reefs and associated biota in the western Atlantic.  For more information contact Dr. Anton Oleinik, aoleinik@fau.edu
