Dr. Rachel Toncelli is Associate Director of the Center for Advancing Teaching and Learning through Research (CATLR) at Northeastern University, where she facilitates faculty development in critical AI literacy, AI integration into pedagogical practice, and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. Her approach to this work draws on extensive experience as a teacher, teacher educator, and higher education administrator, including her service as Director of English Language Learning and Assistant Dean of the College at Brown University. She has also served as an English Language Specialist for the U.S. Department of State.

Dr. Toncelli co-authored Artificial Intelligence, Real Teaching (University of Michigan Press, 2025) and was a co-recipient of the 2024 TESOL International Association Ron Chang Lee Award for Excellence in Classroom Technology for collaborative work creating a blueprint for integrating GenAI into language teaching. She is currently co-leading an international research project for AIEOU (AI in Education at Oxford University) that investigates the role of the human teacher in higher education in the age of AI. She has published in peer-reviewed journals and presents regularly at national and international conferences.

About the Teaching with Technology Showcase

Technology has infused education, and instructors have at their fingertips an overwhelming variety of choices in software, mobile apps, and Web-based resources. Beginning in 2009, FAU’s Office of Information Technology (formerly Information Resource Management) and the Center for eLearning, along with their college partners, have hosted an event called the "Teaching with Technology Showcase," which highlights how FAU faculty members are enhancing learning environments for their students by integrating technology into their classrooms.

Since 2009, the showcase has grown both in attendance and number of presentations. The Boca Raton, Davie, Jupiter, and Port St. Lucie campuses have all hosted the showcase.

Purpose and Objectives

FAU’s Teaching with Technology Showcase facilitates dialogue among FAU faculty and the FAU community members about how to effectively use technology in the curriculum.

Participants have the opportunity to learn how peers are incorporating technology into their classes. Colleagues discuss advantages and disadvantages of the various approaches as well as how pedagogical techniques can enhance and improve learning.

In summary, the event provides a unique opportunity to:

Previous Teaching with Technology Showcases

The Teaching with Technology Showcase is Florida Atlantic University’s teaching and learning conference designed to inform and inspire faculty members on the use of technology. These events provide members of the University community an opportunity to show colleagues how they are using technology to drive innovation in teaching, learning, and research.

Started in 2009 by FAU’s Office of Information Technology, together with the Center for eLearning, and the Center for Teaching and Learning, these events provide faculty members with the opportunity to share, network, and discover the ways in which their colleagues are enriching student experiences through innovative pedagogies and learning technologies. Led by faculty for faculty, this one-day conference aims to support faculty development and enhance student learning.
