Political science explores how people with different interests and values make collective decisions and shape policies that help societies thrive. At Florida Atlantic University, you’ll study the role of law, government, and institutions—both public and private—in distributing resources and maintaining stability. You’ll ask big questions: What makes a government legitimate? Why do revolutions and wars happen? How can governments best serve their citizens? This area of study prepares you to understand and influence the systems that shape our world.

About Political Science at FAU

At Florida Atlantic, political science is hands-on and deeply connected to real-world issues. You’ll work closely with faculty in small classes, take part in public speaking opportunities like the Diplomacy program and moot court, and have the flexibility to explore related fields such as economics, history, philosophy, and sociology. The program encourages you to participate in internships and study abroad, giving you practical experience and a global perspective. You’ll also have the chance to conduct original research and write an honors thesis, setting you up for graduate study, law or business school, or careers in journalism, public affairs, education, or government.
