The Certified Financial Planner Certification Program (CFP®) at Florida Atlantic University is an intensive collection of courses, accredited by the CFP Board, which delivers skill building in those areas critical to financial planning. An overview of the accumulation, preservation and transfer of wealth. The course covers various aspects of estate and gift tax planning processes. Topics include: documents used in estate planning, property transfer and gifting strategies, estate and gift taxes, types and taxation of trusts and wills, qualified interest trusts, charitable giving, life insurance and valuation issues, deferral and minimization of estate taxes, intra-family, business and generation-skipping transfers, disposition of estate and fiduciary responsibilities.
Topics include:
- The steps in the estate planning and probate processes
- Identify and describe the basic estate planning documents
- Compare and contrast the most common types of property titling
- Understand and apply the fundamentals of the gift tax system
- Identify and classify different trust arrangements
- Understand and apply the fundamentals of the generation-skipping transfer tax system
- Compare and contrast advanced charitable planning strategies
- Understand and apply the fundamentals of the estate tax
- Demonstrate the advantages of using life insurance in estate planning

Specific requirements for qualifying for the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) credential include:
- Bachelors Degree
- 3 years of full time experience in the field of Finance
- Completion of a CFP® curriculum offered by a CFP Board Registered Education Provider
